ad·vice | guidance or recommendations offered with regard to prudent future action | NOUN

From time to time, I ask Youth Tour alumni what they wished they knew BEFORE they went on the big trip. Here’s some of the things they said …

Get out of your comfort zone! Easy to say, but not always easy to do. But, if you give it a shot, you won’t regret it. On Youth Tour you get to see and do some pretty cool things. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! I promise you won’t regret it.

Stay hydrated. Honestly, this is simply good life advice, but when we are in DC, it will be warm, and we are on the move a lot. Please be sure to drink plenty of water. We will have water on the bus for you, so there’s really no excuse not to.

Arrive well rested. We have a very busy schedule. There’s no sleeping in, so sleep while you can (before you arrive!).

Comfortable shoes are essential. Be good to your feet, please. We will walk 5-10 miles a day. (Check out Tour Tip Thursday, Week One for more details!)

Be ready to meet new people. The best part of Youth Tour is the people. Get to know your fellow Iowa YTers and the students from the other states. Who knows were these contacts will take you!

And, if you haven’t read our Iowa Youth Tour 2022 News, be sure to check that out too!

As always, contact us if you have any questions.

We are a month out from Youth Tour!

It’s hard to believe, but in a month, we will be touring around our nation’s capital! Here are a few things you should do to be prepared!

1 – Download the Yapp app. We are always working on our touring schedule. The most updated version is accessible by downloading the app called Yapp and then searching for the Iowa Youth Tour event.

2 – Make sure you are in our Remind group. We use an app to communicate while in DC. It’s called Remind. Please take a minute and download it. Many schools use this same app, so you may already have it on your phone. If you need me to resend you the invite to join the group, just let me know.

3 – Review the “Iowa Youth Tour 2022 News” webpage (https://www.iowarec.org/youth-tour/youth-tour-2022). And, while you are there, if you haven’t watched the Tour Tip Thursday videos, be sure to check them out! Pay close attention to the dress code rules!

4 – Watch your mail! As we mentioned in the COVID information/waiver (https://www.iowarec.org/youth-tour/iowa-youth-tour-student-information-form), out of an abundance of caution we are mailing all Youth Tour parents/guardians a COVID rapid test to administer to their student prior to heading to DC. Anytime 72 hours before the June 18 orientation, please take this quick test. It goes without saying that if the test comes back positive, contact me ASAP and we will need to address the issue. If the test is negative, we’re good to go!

We will also be sending you your YT t-shirts in the mail too.

5 – Follow us on social media!

Holiday Inn – Airport *updated location*

6111 Fleur Dr., Des Moines

That’s all for now! Let me know if you have ANY questions! syork@iowarec.org
