And they’re off!

Day 1 of Youth Tour 2017 was off to an early start with one group of students and chaperones flying out of Des Moines at 7am and the second flying out a little later at 9:30. Once everyone got to Washington, we picked up lunch and ate while driving to different memorials. We visited the Air Force Memorial and got to listen to the Air Force Band practice for an event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Air Force. Next, we visited the Navy Memorial and took some group pictures. After this, it was a short drive to our next stop, the White House. After many individual and group photos were taken at the President’s house, we visited the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, DC’s newest memorial. Dinner was at Hard Rock Café, sponsored by Sullivan and Ward Law Firm and we thank them very much for providing this meal! After dinner, it was off the grocery store to stock up on snacks for the week and back to the hotel for a well deserved (and needed!) sleep.

Tomorrow brings more walking and more site-seeing!
