The Second Day of Iowa Youth Tour

The second day of the Iowa Youth Tour was super fun. We accomplished many things today. The first thing we did this morning was trade pins with some states she then at 7:45 we walked to our wonderful breakfast at the Crystal City Sports Pub. The served us amazing food such as; fruit, cereal, bacon, sausage, eggs, and French toast.

After breakfast we went to the National Museum of Marine Corps.  There was an outside walk way that we could go on and look at all different statues.  Then after the outside walking trail we went inside the museum. We were greeted by many airplanes in the sky, and tanks on the ground. You could go in many different places within the building but I'm going to tell you about one of them I found the most important to me. The Iwo Jima room. That is were they kept the first flag to be raised on Mount Suribachi. The six men in this group risked there lives to put our beautiful nations flag, old glory, on top of that mountain. Soon after came lunch time around 11:30 at the Devil Dog Diner. We had multiple options for our cold meat sandwiches. Here are some examples of what we had: ham, turkey, And we also had a vegan option, every meal came with a cookie, chips, an apple, and a cup so we could get a fountain pop.

After we ate our filling meals we went to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. We visited some fallen Officers from Iowa, such as: Officer Jamie Beunting, Rockwell City ,Iowa  EOW 9/13/13, Officer Antony Beminio EOW 11/2/16, Urbandale, Iowa, Officer Justin Martin EOW 11/2/16, (home town: Rockwell City, Iowa) officer in Urbandale, Iowa.

After paying our respects to all of the fallen officers we went to the  bus and we picked up our tour guide. Our tour guide, Amy, was the best tour guide I have had she knew her stuff and she made learning about the monuments fun! We went to the Washington monument where I witness a person lick the memorial to say "have you licked the Washington monument I think not!" Amy told us many facts about each site we went to. She also gave us information about stuff we'd would've never caught if she wasn't with us.

After our wonderful tours with Amy we got on the bus and went to Union Stations food court. There was a variety of options, from Chinese food to American burgers and fries or from healthy smoothies to unsettling Japanese food. We sat down and talk to our group members and went shopping if we wished to do so.

After a very exciting day in Washington D.C. We went back to the hotel and played games with different states in the game room.

We also had Youth Tour Council interviews today!
